You spent your twenties exfoliating, hydrating, and protecting your skin. You selected your skin care products carefully to ensure that you looked your best every day. Yet in your thirties, wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging are beginning to appear. It’s time to shake up your skin care routine.

Causes of Aging Skin

Aging skin can appear as wrinkles, discoloration, and loss of elasticity.  Much of this is caused by exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Exposure to UV rays damages the skin, causing sunburns and tans and increasing the risk of some forms of skin cancer. Decades of exposure to the sun’s rays naturally creates lines, changes in pigmentation, and other signs of aging.

Why Your Skin Regiment Needs to Change

In your 20s, skin care was mostly focused on exfoliating, hydrating, and protecting. It is especially important to protect your skin from UV rays in your 20s to minimize the damage that accumulates over time. Even with protection, by the time most people reach their 30s, their skin has already begun to show some signs of aging. Beginning to repair that damage in your 30s is the key to rejuvenating your skin and maintaining your youthful appearance.

How to Take Care of Aging Skin

BroadBand Light (BBL) skin treatments use infrared light pulses at various wavelengths through different filters to heat up the upper layers of skin, stimulating them to produce more collagen. Collagen is the primary protein responsible for buoyant, fresh looking skin, and it is depleted after years of exposure to solar radiation. By replenishing collagen, BBL can reduce wrinkles and fine lines, giving skin a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. BBL also can treat age spots and other forms of discoloration. The heat from BBL damages discolored cells, which then are reabsorbed into the body, leaving the skin looking more evenly toned and refreshed.

Normally, three to five treatments, each spaced three to four weeks apart, are sufficient to replenish collagen and restore your skin’s appearance. For maintenance, two to four treatments per year are recommended to replenish collagen as it begins to break down again. BBL is most effective when your skin is still relatively youthful. For example, someone who is 30 years old may only need two treatments a year to restore their skin’s collagen and delay the appearance of aging.

BBL treatments require almost no downtime, and in most cases, you can apply makeup immediately after treatment. Within a few weeks, wrinkles, fine lines, and pores will all be less noticeable, and your skin will feel smoother.
